Typology description - Composer

Composers (hereinafter ISFP) are interested mostly in a particular reality. They know what the situation requires and to react accordingly. ISFP who account for 5 % of population like art. Many talented painters, composers, conductors or dancers belonged to this type.

Searching for profound meanings is not their speciality; they are not interested in abstraction, science and theory, nor in service, tradition and regularity. ISFP do not prepare nor plan, they simply do things. If they sense an inner impulse they attach to it like a magnet; they are tangled in it like in a whirl. When 'master' is willing to 'rehearse' for hours in order to manage piano concert with perfection it is not for him a preparation in the right sense of the word, something that he/she sacrifices for later brilliant performance before the audience. This itself is for them the very activity which forms for ISFP an integral part of the performance. When they are completely absorbed by what they are doing they have a tendency not to think about the consequences, not to feel tiredness, pain or not to perceive the threat.

ISFP mostly do not try to become experts in words, whether spoken or written; they rarely practice their rhetoric skills or literary style. The speech is too abstract for them, they rather have a finger on the pulse of life. Here it concerns the speech and not the language. Language is too concrete for them, and therefore they may be e.g. good translators. If some ISFP type becomes a writer, this person changes literature in such a way that it is impossible to write afterwards the same as before. Great part of composers or great ballet soloists were of this type. This type includes actors who perform character roles, many tragedians or comedians. They also include sportsmen, mainly in individual disciplines. The most famous person of the ISFP type was Elvis Presley who demonstrates yet another peculiar quality. He sacrificed his wealth and social status so that his surroundings adapted to his ideal and his full immersion into this artificial world became legendary. He left almost every decision to the relief of people around him, in particular to his manager Parker. He did not take care of his expenses, had no idea if and how the band members are paid, and gradually he was placing less and less limits on his growing self-indulgence which killed him in the end.

ISFP are instinctively lured into everything what is natural and at the same time imposing and rustically simple. They like to be alone in the wilderness and the nature is favourable to them. They are doing great at work where they can employ their ability to perceive imperceivable signals. Many of them get along well with animals, sometimes even with wild and dangerous, as if they understood their language, and they are able to build a mutual trust with them. It is proved e.g. in veterinary medicine or in the profession of zookeeper. They also like crafts including artistic ones because their hands are more skilful than words. It is easier for them to express their feelings and sentiments through an act rather than through pronunciation. They are the types of actors, musicians, artists or sportsmen who lock themselves away; as soon as they leave the stage they decline interviews and they fortify themselves in their inside both figuratively and literally.

Their kindness, if it is in accordance with their values, can be unconditional and endless. They are receptive to pain and suffering of others and do not hesitate if they can help.

ISFP have a tendency to live alternative ways of life which requires their critical distance from majority society. They are represented above average among squatters, ecological activists, pacifists, macrobiotics assistants or worshippers of minority religions.

Whereas ISTP use instruments as their extended hands ISFP fiddle with colours, lines, materials and shades. They are lured by harmonious movement, touch, view or auditory perception. Their outwardly reversed senses seem to be more sensitive than in other types. Therefore they may be e.g. tasters.

If in relation to ISFP the word 'craft' has been used, guild skills in the closest sense of the word are not right for them. For them, the most suitable conception is the one which emphasises mastering of expert skills and at the same time it takes into account the fact that it is a free art for them where every further step is another 'degree of freedom'. What is important for the range of their occupation choice to graduate, which is just as hard for them because the school or the institute offers too little of what is in their interest, and these do not incite their specific kind of intelligence.

To move ISFP somewhere where they do not have to do routine, non-exciting and repeated activities according to established rules is almost like a prison for them. To be happy and effective they must have an opportunity to choose and also some variable activity, and they have to be praised for how they manage it.
